The following statement was issued today to the London Stock
Exchange.
"John Allwood, Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Operating
Officer will be leaving Trinity Mirror at the end of July.
John was Finance Director and then Chief Executive of Mirror
Group until its merger with Trinity plc in September 1999 when he took up his
current role.
Mr Allwood said: 'I have thoroughly enjoyed my 8 years with
Mirror Group and latterly Trinity Mirror but I feel it is now the appropriate
time for me to move on and follow a new career direction. I am pleased to have
been part of the team that turned Mirror Group around and brought it to a
position where it was a suitable partner for merger with Trinity. Trinity Mirror
is a superb media business and I wish it and all my colleagues throughout the
Group every best wish as the Group goes from strength to strength.'
Philip Graf, Chief Executive of Trinity Mirror, said: 'John's
contribution to the success of Trinity Mirror, and in particular the integration
of the two businesses, has been very significant.'
Sir Victor Blank, Chairman of Trinity Mirror and former Chairman
of Mirror Group said: 'John played a very important role in both the Mirror
Group and at Trinity Mirror at critical times in their development. We wish him
every success for the future.'"
John has made a tremendous contribution to this company and his
commitment to the Group post-merger has been absolutely first-class. I
personally wish to thank him for the support he has given me and I know that he
will be successful at whatever path he decides his career should follow.
