Trinity Mirror, the UK's biggest newspaper publisher, has
announced plans to invest over £60 million in a new press site in the
Midlands.
The company is to build a state-of-the-art press hall on the
Fort Dunlop development in Birmingham, to be operational by the end of
2004.
The new presses will replace existing press halls in Birmingham
and Coventry, printing the Birmingham Evening Mail, Coventry Evening Telegraph,
Birmingham Post, Sunday Mercury, plus over 30 weekly newspapers in the
Midlands.
The company, which employs more than 2,000 people in the
Midlands, has obtained planning consent for the new building.
Alistair Nee, Regional Managing Director for the Midlands, said:
"This investment will bring major benefits to our operations in the Midlands,
particularly in our ability to serve the needs of our readers and
advertisers.
"It represents a serious commitment to the region."
The press implementation programme is being steered by a
Midland-based management team, and a thorough project plan is already in place
to ensure the project runs smoothly.
