Trinity Mirror, the UK's largest newspaper publisher, has
appointed Rupert Middleton as Group Director of Manufacturing.
Rupert takes up the new role in April, and will report directly
to Chief Executive Sly Bailey as a member of the Executive Committee.
He will head the Group's newly created manufacturing division,
plans for which were announced with the company's Preliminary Results in
February. The new division will assume control of all of Trinity Mirror's 12
print sites across the UK, and will focus on reducing printing costs and
improving operating efficiencies, return on capital and product quality.
A qualified lawyer, Rupert left the legal profession to focus on
a career initially in employee relations. In 1986 he joined Westferry Printers
Ltd where he oversaw a radical transformation of the business as Managing
Director during the 1990s.
More recently he was Managing Director of a division within The
Stationery Office (TSO) where he was responsible for improving productivity,
customer service and quality across multiple sites.
Sly Bailey said: "Rupert is a highly skilled operator who will
bring both deep experience and new impetus to deliver our vision of a
world-class manufacturing division for Trinity Mirror."
Rupert Middleton said: "Trinity Mirror is a unique business
presenting a unique opportunity in terms of manufacturing operations.
"I look forward with great enthusiasm to working with the team,
and I have no doubt that we will achieve the demanding goals we have set for the
Group."
