Trinity Mirror, the UK's largest newspaper publisher, has
appointed Steve Bird as Group Human Resources Director.
He joins from Lend Lease Corporation, a global property business
best known in the UK for its development of the Bluewater shopping centre and
the Greenwich peninsula. As Group HR Director he played a key role in a
successful turnaround of the business.
Before that he held senior positions at NatWest Group, Glaxo
Wellcome and Ford Motor Company.
Reporting directly to Chief Executive Sly Bailey, he will lead
the HR function throughout the Group as a member of the Executive
Committee.
Sly Bailey said: "Steve has accumulated a wealth of experience
with blue-chip organisations, and successfully guided his last company through a
period of major transition. He will be a great addition to our team."
Steve Bird said: "Trinity Mirror is a great business at a
particularly exciting stage of its development. I'm looking forward to being
involved in the ongoing transformation of the Group."
Steve joins Trinity Mirror on June 6, 2005. He replaces Steve
Addley, who took early retirement in December 2004.
