The Racing Post, the leading racing and sports betting
newspaper, is launching a brand-new sports paper this Saturday (January
14th).
RPSPORT will be free with the Racing Post every weekend,
offering readers sports betting coverage unprecedented in its breadth, depth and
quality.
The move represents the biggest single change to the structure
of the Racing Post since it was launched nearly 20 years ago.
The first issue will be 36 pages, which can increase to adapt to
the demands of the sporting calendar.
RPSPORT will cover all angles of sports betting, from football
and rugby to cricket, snooker and darts.
It will also be the ultimate guide to betting on TV sport. In
addition to special coverage of live sporting events, there will be a unique and
comprehensive listings guide to sport on TV, giving prices on offer and
exclusive expert opinions and tips.
Another innovation is a new betting markets section, displaying
in an easy-to-read format all prices and odds for every market of interest -
from Celebrity Big Brother to the 2006 World Cup.
The launch will be supported by a substantial marketing campaign
involving in-paper promotions and advertising, online and email promotion,
sampling and promotion at football matches, race sponsorship and external
newspaper advertising.
The Racing Post has in recent years dramatically increased its
sports betting coverage and has reaped the benefits in terms of attracting new
readers and advertisers.
The new product is designed to boost the everyday appeal of the
paper to existing readers and to increase awareness of the Racing Post's already
extensive sports coverage.
RPSPORT will also increase the scope for advertisers with a minimum of 20 colour pages every week.
RPSPORT will also increase the scope for advertisers with a minimum of 20 colour pages every week.
In addition to greatly enhancing sports betting coverage, the
change will enable the Racing Post to increase and improve coverage of racing
and greyhounds in the main paper.
Chris Smith, Editor of the Racing Post, said: "RPSPORT is one of
the most exciting innovations in the history of the Racing Post operation. Our
sports section has been growing and expanding for years but this is taking it
not just one step further, but two or three.
"Not only is it fresher and more comprehensive than anything
available anywhere else, it also introduces two stunning new services. No other
publication has ever done anything approaching our new sport on TV listings
section. Like all great innovations, it seems such an obvious thing to do that
it's hard to believe that no-one has done it before.
"The other major newcomer is the Markets service, which for the
first time brings together in one at-a-glance section all the prices available
from different bookmakers in all markets for betting on sport."
Brough Scott, Editorial Director of the Racing Post, said:
"RPSPORT is the biggest single change we have made to the structure of the paper
since we started 20 years ago this April.
"Our continuing commitment to an ever-growing racing programme
has made a separate supplement like RPSPORT increasingly necessary. For all of
us at the Racing Post, getting this new service under way is a terrific start to
the New Year."
