The next editor of the Birmingham Post is to be Marc Reeves,
currently the Editorial Director of Trinity Mirror Southern.
Birmingham-born Reeves takes over from Fiona Alexander who has
moved into health PR.
Announcing the appointment, Midlands Editorial Director Mark
Dickinson said: "Marc has a terrific track record of achievement across a range
of newspapers. The bonus is that he is a Brummie and is made up to be getting
his hands on the Post."
Reeves, 40, has held a number of senior editorial posts before
the creation of TMS and in the mid-nineties was Deputy Editor to Keith Sutton in
Carlisle.
"I've had a great time working in the South East with a great
bunch of people in some of the most fiercely fought-over newspaper markets in
the country," Reeves said. "But an opportunity to return to my home city to edit
one of best-regarded titles in the industry is one simply not to be
missed.
"While there's a lot of work to be done to improve the Post's
circulation performance, I am confident there is also a lot to be achieved with
such an iconic and influential title."
Editorial Director Dickinson added: "This is a critical time for
regional newspapers, and the Post needs the vision and leadership which Marc
brings. There is an excellent team of journalists ready to respond."
Dickinson thanked Midlands Weeklies Editorial Director Tony
Lennox, who has been Acting Editor while Fiona Alexander was on maternity leave.
Tony will return to a strengthened regional development brief, and will help
lead the editorial development of existing titles and the launch of new ones.
"Tony has done a great job and improved the Post's position in a relatively
short spell."
Reeves takes the chair with effect from April 10.
