Trinity Mirror newspapers were the winners at this year's NS
Circulation, Editorial and Promotions Awards, picking up six top gongs and a
number of other prizes.
The group's North East business was particularly successful,
with the Newcastle Evening Chronicle winning Best Multimedia Campaign, the
Teesside Evening Gazette Best Promotion and The Journal Innovative Newspaper of
the Year and Promotional Campaign of the Year.
The Cardiff centre also had a good night, as the South Wales
Echo scooped Best In-Paper Reader Offer and the Western Mail picked up Best Use
of Product Layering and Brand Extension.
Among the other prize-winners were the Evening Gazette
(commended in Best In-Paper Reader Offer), the Western Mail (highly commended,
Best Promotion), the Liverpool Echo (commended, Best Promotion) and the Wales on
Sunday (highly commended, Design and Layout of the Year and commended, Regional
Newspaper of the Year).
Held annually, the awards are designed to recognise and reward
the best circulation initiatives, editorial content and promotions ideas within
the UK regional newspaper industry.
David Newell, director of the Newspaper Society, said: "Judging
was made particularly difficult this year by the high quality of entries. The
regional press industry is developing at an inspiring pace, to reflect the
growing variety of media platforms that are now available.
"We have seen strong evidence of this in the awards, through
many websites, niche publications and supplements. I would like to congratulate
everyone who has won an award."
