Trinity Mirror launches another new weekly in the Midlands

The Rugby Times, a new 72 page free weekly newspaper, was launched this week by Trinity Mirror in the Midlands.

The newspaper is the latest in a string of new launches by Trinity Mirror in the Midlands following the successful launches of the Kenilworth Times early in 2005 and the Leamington & Warwick Times last summer.

The new title, which is distributed to 35,000 homes in the Warwickshire town of Rugby and surrounding villages, is edited by Duncan Gibbons, formerly the chief reporter of the Coventry Evening Telegraph Warwickshire edition.

Tony Lennox, the editorial director of Trinity Mirror's 37 Midland weekly titles, said: "The Rugby Times is a traditional local newspaper, concentrating on purely local news. It's a formula that works.

"The successful launches of its sister titles in Kenilworth, Leamington and Warwick last year proved there is room in these busy markets for good, old-fashioned local papers.

"Duncan and his team are local people who know the patch very well, and that will be the key to our success in Rugby."
