Michael Hill has been appointed by Trinity Mirror to the newly
created role of Head of Multimedia for the Regionals division.
Currently assistant editor at the Derby Evening Telegraph, Hill
is responsible for leading the integration of the title's print and online
activities - in addition to his duties on the print edition.
In his new role he will work closely with Trinity Mirror's
regional editors and newsroom staff as the company continues its drive towards
genuine multimedia publishing.
Michael, who will join Trinity Mirror in late Autumn, said: "I
am very excited about my new role and I'm really looking forward to starting
work in an area which is now being seen as an opportunity for papers, rather
than a threat to their future.
"The key will be to build on the work already underway and
further integrate the print and online operations so they become truly
complementary.
"By playing to the strengths of each platform, the aim will be
to produce compelling multimedia content which will increase audience and
revenue in every marketplace."
In last month's Regional Press Awards Hill led the Derby Evening
Telegraph to the Team of the Year title, and has twice picked up Campaign of the
Year prizes.
Neil Benson, Trinity Mirror's Editorial Director, Regionals,
said: "Michael has a strong track record of developing innovative ideas to
improve both newspapers and their digital platforms and services.
"This is a tremendously exciting and challenging time for
traditional publishers as we reshape our businesses for the future.
"Michael will play a key role as we continue to develop into a
true multi-platform publisher."
Hill started his journalism career at the Leicester Herald &
Post before moving to the Derby Evening Telegraph in 1994, and has been in his
current role since 2002.
