Trinity Mirror plc is to invest a further £23 million in
printing equipment following an agreement with Independent News and Media plc to
enter into a new 12-year contract to print and distribute The Independent.
The deal will see state-of-the-art colour presses installed in
Trinity Mirror Printing sites at Watford and Oldham giving The Independent full
colour and enhanced inserting facilities. This further investment will give
additional full colour pagination to Trinity Mirror's regional titles and
follows a three-year repressing programme of the Group's national sites.
Sly Bailey, Chief Executive, Trinity Mirror commented: "We are
delighted to again be offering The Independent a premium service for a premium
newspaper. The deal enhances our capabilities to provide the best possible
newspapers for the readers and advertisers of both Independent and Trinity
Mirror titles."
Terry Grote, Managing Director, Independent News and Media
commented: "This is an exciting period for The Independent as it now looks
forward to full colour pagination and the additional benefits arising from that.
We have selected Trinity Mirror again to be our partner for their quality of
service and the confidence we have in their delivery."
