Trinity Mirror is to introduce a radical, new way of working across its newsrooms in the Midlands .
The pioneering plan includes the introduction of a single, integrated newsroom for Birmingham , a centralised production unit serving titles across the Midlands , along with a streamlining of production processes and widespread multi-skilling of staff. It will enable the production of high quality content across multiple channels.
The new approach is enabled by 'ContentWatch', a state-of-the-art web-based content management system currently being installed across the region. This is part of a £7.5m investment in industry-leading IT systems along with the move to a modern working environment in a new location in Birmingham .
The plan was created by the Trinity Mirror Midlands senior editors and, as part of these developments, the senior editorial structure itself will change across the key titles in the Midlands portfolio.
Steve Dyson remains editor of the Birmingham Mail and will take a lead role in introducing the new structure. His editorship will also take on additional responsibility for the Sunday Mercury.
Marc Reeves remains as editor of the Birmingham Post and also takes on additional responsibilities for online development for the region.
Editor of the Coventry Telegraph, Alan Kirby, will be overseeing the transition for the Telegraph but has decided to take early retirement at Christmas. Alan has been a brilliant and committed editor for the Coventry Telegraph and will be devoting his remaining time with the company to ensuring that the title is best positioned for the future.
Editor of the Sunday Mercury, Dave Brookes, will play a similar 'minding' role for the title during the transition but, from January, will be taking over as editor of the Coventry Telegraph. This appointment is due recognition of Dave's excellent work for the Mercury.
Tony Lennox, Editorial Director of Midlands Weekly Media, is taking on the new role of Business Development Editor. As well as continuing to oversee the development of our weekly titles, Tony will be exploring new publishing opportunities in the Midlands .
