Trinity Mirror Printing consolidates printing for North West in Oldham

Trinity Mirror Printing have announced today the decision to transfer printing of the North West newspaper titles to Trinity Mirror Oldham over the next 15 months and the subsequent closure of the Liverpool press site at the end of 2009.

The transfer to the Oldham print site will enable the regional newspaper titles in the North West to benefit from improved print quality, additional colour and inserting potential and substantially reduced operating costs.

The Group is investing £7.5million to create the single production site in Oldham and this will provide an extension to the new colour presses, which came on line in December 2007.

It is anticipated that the transfer of work will present an opportunity for some Trinity Mirror Printing Liverpool employees to move to Trinity Mirror Oldham. However the remaining roles will be made redundant over the next 15 months and a consultation process has begun today with affected staff.

Rupert Middleton, Group Director of Manufacturing, said: "This has been a very difficult decision given our history of printing in Liverpool and the impact on our team there.

"But this plan will give the North West publishing business clear benefits of improved print quality, enhanced colour levels and inserting capabilities that are currently unavailable in Liverpool as well as reduced costs."
