Trinity Mirror branding blend

Modern, brighter new look Wharf

The Wharf, the leading newspaper for Canary Wharf and the Docklands, has undergone its first major facelift since it was launched more than 10 years ago.

Bolder and fresher, with a striking masthead and impactful front page design, the new look is designed to be more eye-catching and appealing to both its existing core readership and potential new readers.

Wharf-newlook.jpgUnder the tagline, "A Different Perspective", this revamp represents the logical step in the free titles evolution, which recently marked its 500th issue.

The paper's fonts, colour palette and structure have been overhauled to create a distinctive look and feel designed to appeal to the papers discerning readership.

A new section, Business7, has also been added to appeal to a cross-section of readers - from those intimately involved in the world of commerce, to those with a passing interest who just want the week's business news distilled into an easy-to-read summary.

The new section follows on from the success of Business7, the free business newspaper launched in Scotland in 2007.

Giles Broadbent, editor of The Wharf, said: "The paper has been evolving successfully over the last year into something more significant so we thought it was time that our outward appearance reflected the change more accurately.

"Our aim is to be an essential guide to Canary Wharf and the Docklands, and this design helps us to meet this challenge.

"Our readership is clued-up and media-savvy and our challenge is to provide stories they won't have seen elsewhere - or content they may be familiar with but presented in an original and enticing format."

"There's a tremendous breadth of business activity in the area - not just the financial services. There's a vibrancy and entrepreneurial culture that is a far cry from the big corporate towers that surround us."

The paper now complements the website wharf.co.uk, which launched last year and has seen significant growth in both unique users and page impressions - The Wharf brand now has a combined reach of over 60,000.

Paula Scott, Publisher of The Wharf, said: "Our modern and striking design reflects the vibrancy of the area in which we operate.

"We're the only local paper based in Canary Wharf so we're uniquely placed to understand and deliver what our readers and advertisers want."
