Media Wales is launching a new free weekly newspaper in Cardiff.
Echo Extra, which will replace the Cardiff Post free newspaper, will be distributed door to door to 52,000 households.
The new paper will carry unique news, features, columns and sport that will complement the six-day a week paid-for South Wales Echo.
Mike Hill, editor of the South Wales Echo and Echo Extra, said:"The new Extra will hold the same brand values as the South Wales Echo which has established itself as a trusted and responsive editorial and advertising vehicle over more than a century.
"The Extra, with its fresh design which closely allies it to the daily title, will carry significantly more news, features and sport than the Post. We will encourage reader involvement with exclusive news, columnists, contributed items and through walesonline.co.uk."
Echo Extra will offer advertisers enhanced access to the suburbs of Whitchurch, Llandaff, Cyncoed and Rhiwbina and, in conjunction with the South Wales Echo, will offer significantly greater coverage across the whole Cardiff market.
Advertising Director Denise Rich said: "The new combined South Wales Echo and Echo Extra package is designed to give advertisers the best possible coverage of the Cardiff marketplace. This new addition to the Echo family will offer increased value to readers and advertisers alike."
Media Wales Publishing director Alan Edmunds said: "This is a positive move to redevelop and enhance our proposition in the Cardiff marketplace.
"This new Echo Extra brand demonstrates Media Wales' commitment to the South Wales Echo newspaper and to the city of Cardiff which is developing as the leading retail destination in Wales and the south west of England."
